Paintings
Brigit has spent many years perfecting her watercolour technique.
“I enjoy using the medium because of it’s immediacy, ability to make transparent layers and quick drying properties. In some paintings, I have fragmented the background using different shapes and a variety of tones so that, hopefully, there are more details to explore in the painting. In other more realistic work, I have just loved using the bright contrasting colours.”
Oil painting on canvas was Brigit’s preferred medium at art college. As with the watercolours, the obvious joy of working with bright colours is evident in the still life paintings.
“Working with oil paints needs a different approach to the watercolours as it takes a lot longer to dry and the process takes many more hours than watercolours to complete. Returning to oils has been an absolute pleasure as I can paint thickly or thinly, use palette knives to create texture and again, as with the watercolours, apply dynamic, cheerful colours.”
